Travel Grant: Call for Applications

The deadline for travel grant applications has passed.

The Society for Vascular Medicine’s Board of Trustees recently approved the creation of a travel grant program to enhance the quality of the annual meeting and to facilitate participation for those coming from developing countries and experiencing financial hardship.

Travel grant recipients receive the following:

  • $500 – $1,500 in support of their travel, lodging and expenses during the meeting. The amount of the award will be based on the cost of travel from their location.
  • Complimentary registration to Scientific Sessions and Board Review Course and all course materials.

Timeline

Application Deadline January 15, 2008
Grants awarded February 12, 2008
Winners notified February 15, 2008
Meeting begins May 29, 2008

Eligibility & Applications

  • Young investigators and interested physicians, researchers, nurses and technicians actively working in developing countries are encouraged to apply.
  • Candidates are selected on the basis of their experience and goals in vascular medicine, their ability to benefit from participation in the annual meeting, and need.
  • The travel grant application process is open to SVM members and non-members who have not previously received an SVM travel grant (subsequent years).
  • The application includes a statement of need that explains the impact or importance of attending this meeting, current curriculum vitae, estimate of expenses (in US dollars) to travel to the SVM Annual Meeting and a letter of reference (optional).

Selection Criteria

Selection takes into account the total pool of funds available and how much support is requested by the applicant to ensure attendance. Other criteria may include:

  • People in active practice who are in early or mid-career
  • How much “impact” the applicant would have on service delivery in their place of residence
  • Geographic distribution

Please note that a limited number of travel grants are available for the 2008 Annual Meeting.
